Session Description:

Effective school safety measures start with planning and communication. The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) will present newly issued school safety guidance for classroom safety in addition to information related to the adoption of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 2018 Life Safety code rules. An overview of the annual inspection program and the current state of fires in Tennessee schools will be covered as well.

The SFMO hopes to provide greater flexibility to Tennessee educators when planning for school safety emergencies and this presentation will also allow for participant questions to be addressed with the overall goal of aiding school officials in providing the highest level of safety to students, staff and visitors.

Speakers from the Division of Fire Prevention will include Assistant Commissioner Gary Farley (TN Department of Commerce and Insurance), Codes Enforcement Director Chris Bainbridge, Leigh Ferguson (legal) and Marybeth Gribble.

You will also hear from Brice Allen with Tennessee Homeland Security and Thom Jones with Navigate Prepared.
